Not Your Average Family photos: Ozarks family Session

Amy and I started as virtual friends on Instagram. I had quickly fallen in love with Amy’s style and her consistent documentation of her life. Amy owns a vintage thrift store on Etsy (@mj_vintage_supply) and you can see her aesthetic and passion for vintage 50s-60s America throughout her home and life. So it was only a matter of time for us to plan a not-your-average-family-photo-session. My intentions weren’t to just show up and take “family pictures” but to truly document Amy’s family, her husband, her kids and of course Amy and our sweet mutual friend Adrianne (Adrianne and Amy’s friendship go way back to high school, and Adrianne and I were once coworkers.)

When I arrived at the home of the Taylor family that is situated in the Ozarks I felt like I was already part of the family! Adrianne was already waiting for me at the gate to take me into the house, it felt like forever because Adrianne had wanted the three of us to meet up for a very long time and it was finally happening. I walked in and Amy with her signature curly hair greeted me with a warm hug (like we’d been friends for a very long time), introduced me to her family and pointed to the well laid table of refreshments. As she went to finish up getting ready, I got to sit at their table and catch up with Adrianne and get to know Amy’s kids (Asher, Arden and Milli). They showed me around their cute farm, the chickens, the garden and their 50s vintage trailer that they just bought.
It was very easy to grow fond of the Taylor family as it felt natural documenting them in their home and on their farm. I love that despite the distance, it’s things like social media that help keep us closer together. The solid friendships you create are ones that are able to work smoothly when you can just “catch up” or “pick up” from where you left off.
Later that year, I returned to the Midwest for a wedding and got to meet Amy again and this time we shot Asher and his girlfriend, Jess (that session I’ll save for another blog post,) in the meanwhile, enjoy these photos.
